I have no idea what to write my essay on, so this post is dedicated to that and getting points in class. So one of the ideas I had about Beloved is that it might actual be "me" that is the dead ghost baby. What if the book is a metaphor or something for the effects of slavery in america? If it is, that's interesting, but still too broad a topic to write about. I wouldn't even know where to start with that one. Maybe I could use the end of the book where they talk about Beloved wandering around or whatever in the epilogue. Another idea I had was talking about how even the most progressive people in this book were a little bit backwards. Like the slave owners, the Garners, that owned Sethe and Baby Suggs. Those people still owned people and that seems a rather questionable to me... Mainly because they were bragging about how progressive they were being with all the rights they allowed their slaves.
